The Embrey Family Foundation, spearheaded by sisters Lauren and Gayle Embrey, is making a gift of $1 million to the Dallas Women's Foundation's $30 million comprehensive campaign in what they called "a bold move" for women's and girls' roles in building stronger communities.

"We are truly honored that Lauren and Gayle Embrey have entrusted the Dallas Women's Foundation with the Embrey Family Foundation's efforts to support women and girls in the North Texas community," said Becky Sykes, Dallas Women's Foundation executive director.

The Dallas Women's Foundation has made more than 800 grants and invested more than $9.5 million in programs and organizations – primarily in Dallas, Denton and Collin counties – since it was founded in 1985. And the donation will establish a donor-advised fund to support programs targeting poverty and seeking to end violence and discrimination against women and girls.

"With this support of our campaign and the establishment of the Embrey Family Foundation Donor Advised Fund, the Embrey sisters have initiated a collaboration that will help send lifelines out to countless women and girls, who in our community suffer disproportionately from poverty and violence," Ms. Sykes said.

The Embrey Family Foundation is one of numerous foundations that have invested in the Dallas Women's Foundation for its expertise in grant-making to women and girls.

"Gayle and I wanted to make a bold move, because we believe strongly in the work of the Dallas Women's Foundation, its reputation and its commitment to improving the lives of women and girls in our community," said Lauren Embrey, president of the Embrey Family Foundation. "We are taking a stand with others, pooling our funds to say: 'Discrimination leading to increased poverty and violence needs to end, and we will do everything in our power to assist in a much needed cultural and societal change.' "

"It is imperative that we step in now to stem the tide of ever-rising challenges facing women and girls," said Gayle Embrey, vice president of the Embrey Family Foundation. "With this gift, we demonstrate our strong support for the Dallas Women's Foundation's guiding principle – that lifting up women and girls is one of the quickest, most efficient ways to lift up a community,"

The Embrey Family Foundation was established in 2004 by J. Lindsay Embrey (1925-2005) to continue a family tradition of philanthropy and community- building started by Lindsay Embrey's great-grandfather, Judge J.M. Lindsay.
