Foundation President Lauren Embrey Honored for Philanthropy By Women That Soar
On September 19, 2009, Embrey Family Foundation President Lauren Embrey was recognized with the 2009 Brilliantly You award for Philanthropy by the Dallas-based organization Women That Soar. Embrey’s achievements and philosophy were spotlighted along with those of seven other “Women That Soar” at an award ceremony and celebration held at Dallas’ historic Union Station.
Brilliantly You honors women throughout the State of Texas who soar to success, often despite personal and professional obstacles. Focused on the journey of women, the recognition is shared by those who have reached a distinguished level of success in their chosen profession, and who have paved the way and supported the advancement of other women.
In addition to the Philanthropy award bestowed on Embrey, the other 2009 Brilliantly You honorees and their award categories were: Kim Dawson, Life Time Achievement; Clarice Tinsley, Media; Gray Hawn, Arts; Margo Keyes, Arts Patron; Harriet Miers, Civic; Jan Strimple, Fashion; and Courtney Marcus, Business.
In highlighting Embrey’s wide range of philanthropic activities, Women That Soar cited her work with the Embrey Family Foundation and her board service to such organizations as TITAS, Big Thought, WaterTower Theatre and Parish Episcopal School in Dallas, The Nest Foundation in Los Angeles and the International Theater Exchange Committee in New York City.
It also recognized her involvement in the Women’s Donor Network, the Women’s Funding Network, the Dallas Women’s Foundation Campaign and the Women Moving Millions Initiative, as well as her passion for film, theater and human rights work.
“It’s a blessing and so fulfilling to be able to spend your days meeting people who care about others and looking at ways that we can strategically have a greater effect on our community, and therefore a ripple effect on our world,” Embrey said.
“There’s so much to do in this world, and so much beauty in the world as well,” she added. “If we can combine that beauty with that work and that passion for others, we can really bring a shining light and have such a great impact on others and on our young people.”
